Why Do I Need International Medical Insurance?
Individuals

For most individuals the main reason for coverage is "Safety". When traveling alone, or even with companions, what would happen if you were injured and were unable to arrange for medical assistance yourself?

Would your companions know who to contact? Would they know how to arrange admittance to a local medical facility? What if you needed to be medically evacuated to the nearest suitable medical facility?

Peace of Mind for travel under six months can run as little as a few dollars per day. The coverage card you carry could very well make the difference in receiving the medical care needed vs. none at all.

Groups

Whether it is legal liability or moral responsibility, individuals who coordinate and arrange for groups to travel internationally create a great deal of liability for their employer or sponsoring organization.

Assuming, or even requiring, that all travelers have medical protection does not shield the group organizer from liability. Inadequate coverage or the trip leader's inability to assist a traveler in contacting his/her US carrier can lead to out-of-pocket expenses that the Ministry may be obligated to cover.

For as little as $2 per day, everyone in your group can be covered and, equally important, the trip leader knows who to call (IMG Coverage Card) to coordinate any type of emergency need.

When you are away from home you want a plan that will:

  • Provide 24 hour claims assistance,
  • Accept collect calls from around the world,
  • Process claims in virtually any language and currency.

You'll also want an insurer who can:

  • Handle the logistical challenges of an Emergency Medical Evacuation,
  • Arrange for Emergency Reunions (covered under the policy!),
  • Wire payment to a foreign hospital, so you can be treated without delay.

International health insurance medical coverage makes sense, even if you have great coverage at home:

  • Most US-based health plans are not set up to handle claims and emergency phone calls from around the world. (Imagine contacting your carrier at 3:00a.m. from a foreign country.)
  • Coverage is often limited to 30 or 60 days outside the country.
  • HMO and PPO plans may impose severe out-of-network penalties for treatment
  • Medicare generally does not cover any claims incurred outside the United States.
  • Most US health plans would not:
    • Pay for or coordinate Emergency Evacuation,
    • Pay for Repatriation of Mortal Remains in the case of a death,
    • Provide simple travel coverage for lost / stolen bags.

Affordable coverage YOU can count on - anywhere in the world!

Our Administrators handle over 75,000 international claims per year.
